Goerke claims third overall in Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil

With a third overall, Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha’s Matt Goerke maintained his position at the top of the MX1 leaderboard on Sunday at Round 6 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, which were held at the spectacular Motocross Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil circuit in Quebec. His teammate, Tim Tremblay, recorded a top ten finish in front of a huge, home province crowd, with eighth overall.

As at the previous national rounds so far this season, the weather once again cooperated for an afternoon of top-notch racing and spectating. Mild temperatures that reached a high of 25° (77°F), a light breeze, and dodging the bullet of the possibility of more rain, which had fallen on Friday and Saturday, was the order of the day.

The first moto start transpired flawlessly for both Goerke and Tremblay, with both riders inside the top ten. Goerke was in the thick of things, rounding turn one in fourth place behind holeshooter Colton Facciotti, second place Kaven Benoit and third place Dillan Epstein. Tremblay was a bit further back, just inside the top ten in ninth place.

The action was fast and furious on the difficult to pass on Motocross Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil circuit, with both Goerke and Tremblay riding the wheels off their YZ450F just to stay in the mix with the frontrunners. When all was said and done, Goerke was able to advance only one position into third place, where he finished behind Benoit. Tremblay, who briefly rode in tenth place, managed to make his way into eighth around the halfway mark of the moto and stay there till the checkered flag.

The start of the second moto again saw Goerke pull off a lightning start, taking turn one in third place behind Christophe Pourcel, who was in the rear fender of holeshooter Kaven Benoit. For the first half of the moto, the top five starters kept their positions, running within seconds of each other until Benoit crashed hard, ending his race, and everyone advancing one position. Despite coming to within striking distance of new leader of the pack Pourcel, Goerke was unable to execute a successful pass on the former World Champion. Although he would concede one championship point to Pourcel, who snared 4-1 moto finishes, with his 3-2 results Goerke was able to defend his position as points leader.

Tremblay, meanwhile, got off to a less promising start in the second moto, finding himself in 16th place as the freight train thundered into turn one. Undaunted, he put down his head and twisted the throttle to claw his way into the top ten, installing himself in eighth place just after the halfway mark of the moto. Tremblay would remain there till the checkered flag, securing eighth overall on the day and moving from ninth in the points to eighth, which seemed to be the magic number of the day for the Quebec native.

The Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals continue this Sunday, July 23rd at Pleasant Valley Motorsport Park in Truro, NS.
