Hayden Takes Barrie Again – Butler Finishes Third Overall

At an unscheduled return to Georgian Downs in Barrie this past weekend Team Rockstar Energy Polaris Racing's Iain Hayden again dominated the Pro Open class, booking a near-perfect score in the two-day event.

Hayden's teammate Lee Butler put the icing on the cake with top-five finishes and third overall for the weekend.

The CSRA Provincial Championship round was originally slated for nearby Orangeville, but a lack of snow forced a venue change to Georgian Downs, which just hosted a national round at the end of January.

"It's been an unbelievable winter and not enough snow has been a problem most places south of North Bay this season," team owner Andre Laurin said. "Although the crews did a good job on the track, even at Georgian Downs we could have used more snow. The track was mainly flat, but it provided the spectators with some really fast racing."

Despite the sparse snow, for Hayden it was business as usual. Although he rode a fairly conservative first qualifier on Saturday, which saw him cross the finish line in third place, he put his explosive Polaris IQ 600 at the front of the pack in his second qualifier and never looked back.

It was the beginning of the end for the competition; the rest of the weekend would see Hayden on top of the podium every time out. After winning the second Open Pro qualifier on Saturday, the Espanola, ON native finished off the day with a convincing win in the final.

In Sunday's races, Hayden put on a clinic in both his qualifiers and the final, giving him a perfect 1-1-1 score. He was never really threatened for position and once again proved himself to be a worthy defending champion.

"It was a dream weekend for me. Everything just came together nicely. The team did a great job and my IQ ran like a guided missile. All I had to do was hang on," Hayden said.

Meanwhile, Butler was to be found where he has been all season, finishing top five and hammering down third overall for the weekend on the strength of 4-2 finishes in the finals.

On Saturday, the Sudbury native chalked up 2-4 results in his qualifiers – the next day he shook 6-2 finishes out of his sleeve.

"I didn't finish as strong in the qualifiers as I would have liked, but my four-two results in the final are keeping me in the title hunt," Butler said.

As in the National Championship, Butler currently holds down a third place ranking in the Provincial Championship, giving Team Rockstar Energy Polaris Racing a solid hold on the points, with Hayden spearheading the charge in first place.

The team's Pro Lite driver, JB Dennis, still dealing with a knee injury he sustained at Georgian Downs national round, rose to the occasion in the Lite Open class mounting the podium in all three races on Sunday.

In his qualifiers, the Bracebridge native garnered noteworthy 1-2 results. The final saw him greet the checkered flag in third place.
