Kiniry, Chisholm and Maffenbeier Ready for Nationals

Team Rockstar Energy Drink OTSFF Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry, Kyle Chisholm and Shawn Maffenbeier are eagerly looking forward to Round 1 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, which kick off this Saturday at The Wastelands in Nanaimo, BC.

“We’re all set to tackle a new season of nationals. Everybody has been busy working behind the scenes getting the bikes dialed in and riding some local events to shake off the cobwebs. Bobby, Shawn, and Kyle are in great shape and focused on the task ahead, which will be consistent podium finishes that will put us in the mix for an MX1 and MX2 championship,” said Iain Hayden, the team’s rider manager.

Kiniry, a veteran of the team, spent much of the off-season just kicking back. He did some outdoor races, but no supercross, and got his knee repaired, giving it plenty of rest to heal. Kiniry has been a top contender in the CMRC MX1 points chase for a number of years and he’s looking to make 2014 his best year yet.

“My knee was giving me some grief towards the end of last season and I knew I needed to get it fixed properly if I was going to race at my maximum potential this year,” Kiniry said. “I’ve been out on my bike as much as possible lately and I’m glad to say that I felt really good on the new YZ450F. I’m definitely pumped for the start of the nationals.”

Maffenbeier, who missed most of last season due to a shoulder injury, is looking forward to making amends this year. If he picks up where he left off at the last 2013 MX2 National in Walton – an overall win on the strength of 2-1 motos – the Saskatchewan native is bound to be one of the key players in the MX2 title hunt.

“Last year was a big disappointment for me and this year it’s about setting things straight and making a serious bid for the title. I’m feeling great and I’m anxious to get the season underway. The objective will be to stay healthy and consistent at every round and collect points for the championship. I’m taking it race by race,” Maffenbeier said.

Joining Team Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha this year is Florida’s Kyle Chisholm. Chisholm, who won the CMRC MX2 East Championship in 2006, will be campaigning the MX1 Championship alongside Kiniry. Although Chisholm hasn’t raced in Canada since the ’06 season, he is familiar with most of the tracks and is expected to be one of the frontrunners in the series.

I’m thrilled to be racing in Canada again and happy to be doing it with one of the country’s top teams. I have a lot of good memories from my previous racing campaigns there and I’m looking forward to making new ones, which hopefully will include winning the MX1 Championship,” Chisholm said.
